Pain management and control is extremely important to us at the Northside Animal Hospital. No animal should be allowed to suffer in pain with the wealth of pain medications available to us today.
We make sure that all pets undergoing surgical procedures are given injectable pain medication during their hospital stay and sent home with oral pain medication to keep them comfortable through recovery.
Animals with traumatic injuries or severe pain can be placed on constant rate infusions of pain medication while in the hospital.
As many of our pets are living well into their golden years painful conditions such as arthritis are more and more common. Pain medications are available to help improve guality of life for these pateints.
As with any type of medication, side effects are possible and so baseline blood work prior to starting pain medication, especially those in the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) catagory, is required to access the overall health of the patient. Monitoring blood work every 6 months is also recommended when on these medications.
